The Challenge: When Shivashankar’s family migrated from Ballari to Bengaluru in 2018, they were searching for a more stable livelihood. His father found work as a BBMP driver while his mother became a rag picker. Like many migrant families, both parents worked long hours and faced a constant worry: who would care for their young children while they were away?

Intervention: The family’s journey with Diya Ghar began with their eldest children, Bheemesha, Keerthana and Oblesh. When their youngest son, Shivashankar, was ready for preschool, the family never considered another option. He joined Diya Ghar in June 2024 and is now a cheerful learner who enjoys Montessori activities, rhymes and storytelling.

Transformation: As each child graduated from Diya Ghar, they transitioned to Muneshwara Government School. Today, Bheemesha (Diya Ghar graduate, 2022) is in Class 4, Keerthana (graduate, 2023) is in Class 3, and Oblesh (graduate, 2025) is in Class 2. All three continue to receive academic support through Diya Ghar’s after-school programme, helping them stay engaged in School.
